The Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (MSEM) proudly recognize the exemplary leadership of Professor Ko Ko, whose presidency from 2022  to 2025 has marked a defining period of growth and transformation. As the fifth President of MSEM—established on March 15, 2008, to advance endocrine care in Myanmar—he has guided the society with vision, integrity, and a strong commitment to excellence, positioning it as a leading force in both national and regional medical communities.

During his tenure, Professor Ko Ko significantly elevated Myanmar’s presence on the global stage. A major milestone was the successful organization of the International Diabetes and Endocrinology Conference (IDEC) 2025, conducted in collaboration with the Myanmar Diabetes Association (MMDA). Under the theme Advancing Care in Endocrinology and Diabetes,” the conference brought together international experts and local professionals, fostering meaningful knowledge exchange. Furthermore, his leadership ensured active participation in prominent international platforms such as the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies (AFES) Congress 2025, the Asia Pacific Bone Health Conference in Tokyo, and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 2025, strengthening Myanmar’s voice within the global scientific community.

A cornerstone of his presidency has been the advancement of clinical excellence through Continuous Medical Education (CME) and interdisciplinary collaboration. By initiating joint efforts with the Nephrology Society, Neurology Society, Hypertension Society, and the GI & Liver Foundation, Professor Ko Ko promoted a more integrated approach to patient care. His dedication to nurturing future healthcare professionals is evident through initiatives such as the Diabetes C.A.R.E. Program in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), postgraduate insulin training at the University of Medicine 1, and the Diabeto Connect Program, all of which have contributed to strengthening clinical capacity across Myanmar.

In addition to academic and professional development, Professor Ko Ko has played a pivotal role in advancing public health awareness. Under his guidance, MSEM led impactful national campaigns, including World Diabetes Day 2025 under the theme Diabetes Across Life Stages,” in collaboration with MMDA and major hospitals, as well as World Obesity Day 2025 and 2026, which emphasized a systemic approach to tackling obesity through the theme 8 Billion Reasons to Act on Obesity.” These initiatives have enhanced public understanding and encouraged preventive healthcare practices nationwide.

His presidency has also been marked by a strong commitment to evidence-based practice. Key clinical guidelines, including the Diabetes Guideline (2024), osteoporosis management guidelines, MASLD guidance, and insulin therapy recommendations, have been made accessible through the MSEM website. Importantly, these resources have been provided free from commercial influence, reflecting his dedication to ethical standards and unbiased medical education. Complementing these efforts, Professor Ko Ko expanded digital engagement through MSEM’s podcast platform, successfully reaching thousands of active viewers and creating accessible learning opportunities for healthcare professionals.

The Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (MSEM) officially launched its website in March 2023, followed by the introduction of its YouTube channel in May 2023. These platforms were strategically established as comprehensive knowledge-sharing channels, designed to serve both the general public and healthcare professionals by facilitating access to reliable medical information, advancing professional education, and enhancing engagement within the field of endocrinology.

Through visionary leadership, strategic initiatives, and a steadfast commitment to advancing healthcare, Professor Ko Ko has made a lasting impact on the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism. His presidency not only strengthened the society’s academic and global standing but also reinforced its role in public health advocacy and professional development. As MSEM moves forward, his contributions will continue to serve as a strong foundation for innovation, collaboration, and improved patient outcomes across Myanmar.
