Founded on March 15, 2008, the MSEM was born out of a collective desire to address the gaps in endocrine and metabolic healthcare. A visionary medical professionals recognize the pressing need to establish a platform for education, research and collaboration in this specialized field. Their shared passion laid the groundwork for MSEM, a hub of knowledge and innovation dedicated to enhancing patient care and advancing medical understanding.

For historical perspectives, it should be recorded that Professor Daw Khin Ye Myint was the first person to seed to get permission to found the Endocrine Society under the umbrella of Myanmar Medical Association (MMA) in August 2001. Unfortunately, the attempt was ended without avail among the Central Executive Committee of the MMA. In 2005, after attending the World Congress on the Prevention of Diabetes Mellitus and its complications, Professor Tint Swe Latt submitted a letter of application to the Ministry of Health for permission to establish the endocrine Society. The Ministry of Health gave direction to MMA to discuss the necessity and feasibility to establish a new society under its umbrella. After several intense debates in many CEC meetings of MMA, Professor Tint Swe Latt eventually could convince the members of CEC of MMA that it is the dire necessity that Endocrine Society should be founded to keep abreast with the changing global epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases. Myanmar Society of Endocrine and Metabolism (MSEM) could be established on 15 March, 2008 with 61 founding members. The first president of the society was late Professor Ye Thway and Patrons were Professors U Ko Ko Hla, U Tha Aung, U Maung Maung Wint. Professors Than Than Aye and U Myo Win were Vice Presidents and Professor Tint Swe Latt was a General Secretary then.
